Fusion Ends Year In Flurry of Activity
Irving, TX (January 31, 2003) - Wrapping up its biggest year ever, Fusion Productions spent the last three months of 2002 traveling literally coast to coast shooting three different projects. Summarizing the rigorous schedule, Fusion co-owner and Associate Producer, Gina Sims said, "Our crews went from the dessert in Utah, to the humidity in Florida, then to Los Angeles, back to Florida and then snow covered Connecticut before finishing the year in Studio here at home in the Dallas area."
The Studios at Las Colinas provided Stage B for the third installment of NASA’s Countdown series. Post Production will be completed in the first quarter of 2003. Location shooting was required in Florida and Connecticut for this edition, titled Countdown: Know Change.
Fusion was also shooting an inspirational piece for NASA’s Space Shuttle Program Office. Director Todd Sims interviewed men and women literally across America for the video. Using dramatic backdrops such as the Great Salt Lake, a Space Shuttle Main Engine, and even the Space Shuttle Endeavour, Sims and the Fusion crews were given access to some of NASA’s most dramatic locations including Launch Complex 39B, the top of the Vehicle Assembly Building (VAB), and the Orbiter Processing Facility. The video will inspire and motivate the vast Space Shuttle workforce to be proactive and conscientious about process control and safety.
The third project that kept the Fusion crews in hotels and airports was for NASA’s Industrial Engineering for Safety (IES) program. Fusion was contracted to develop a fully interactive CD-ROM for the new NASA customer. The content of the CD-ROM features six original video pieces which highlight various Space Shuttle upgrades across the program. One video required a trip to sea in a zodiac to shoot the Solid Rocket Booster retrieval ship in action, while another exposed Fusion crews to the highly volatile and restricted areas of Thiokol propulsion (manufacturer of the Solid Rocket fuel and SRBs). The project, entitled IES: Think About It!, was completed in January and will be released in February.
Although the crew at Fusion enjoyed a short break during the holidays, production has already hit high gear for 2003. Fusion will be completing the two projects for the Space Shuttle Program Office and the Sims’ are currently in preparation for shooting their first feature film project in the spring.
